Prologue to Jacob Evans by Steve Manchester   Jacob Evans is a completed collection of thirty-seven short stories. This unique collection begins with the birth of Jacob Evans and ends with his death. Individually, everything from heart-warming (romance/spiritual) to bone-chilling (suspense/macabre), can be found - each standing firmly on its own. Collectively, however, these thirty-seven glimpses of life become a simple story of one man's journey, with all the complexities that make such a trip worthwhile. The collection is woven by the history of reappearing characters please allow me to introduce:   Jacob Evans by  Steven Manchester   "If life were a bowl of soup, no matter what its taste, some of the ingredients might surprise even the most cultured palate." - Jacob Evans   To most people, it was an insignificant blur of print over a Saturday morning cup of coffee. It read: Jacob S. Evans, 53, of 66 Oliver St., Fall River, died unexpectedly Thursday evening at Mass. General Hospital. He was the husband of Emma (Duff) Evans. Born in Fall River, Mass., the son of the late Herbert and Claire Evans, he lived in the city his entire life. Mr. Evans worked for State Street Bank, Quincy, for 24 years and was a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the V.F.W., post 8502 and a communicant of Our Lady of Grace church. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Michael Evans and Maximillian Evans; a daughter, Andrea Evans, all of Fall River; and two grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Robert "Buddy" Evans. The funeral will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. at Potter Funeral Home, 14 Reed Rd., Fall River with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in Our Lady of Grace Church, Fall River. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Fall River.    To those who loved Jacob Evans and were loved by him, however, it was the most profound and devastating news they had ever read. Yet, the newspaper barely revealed a fraction of this cherished man. Whether due to lack of space or simple apathy, the world would never know the colorful characters that Jacob Evans had met along his journey, his experiences, or any of the seemingly trivial parts that made up the whole of his life.
